With organized team activities in full swing, the Los Angeles Rams are still fine-tuning their roster for the 2018 NFL season. Fortunately, there is one notable free agent who likes what he sees from this team.
Former Arizona Cardinals running back Adrian Peterson is still a free agent after an eventful offseason. During an appearance on ESPN’s “NFL Live”, Peterson named the Rams as one of the teams he is most intrigued by:
“Obviously, I’ve mentioned Houston a couple times. I feel like Green Bay wouldn’t be a bad look, as well. Carolina. There’s some options out there. You know, Miami. Down there in St. Louis. That would be a nice look, too, with Todd Gurley. You see around the league they have a two-back system. Guys are really not pounding the ball 20, 30 times a game, so I think that leaves the door open for a couple opportunities for me.”
It is clear that Peterson was referring to Los Angeles when he mentioned St. Louis as one of the teams. Fans may have to forgive the veteran for his blunder. He has been in the league since 2007 and has played the St. Louis version of the Rams more than the Los Angeles ones.
Regardless, his comments certainly are intriguing. Although he will go down as one of the greatest running backs of all time, he seems to understand that a backup role with a high-powered offense is the most ideal situation at this stage in his career. He proved that he still has plenty of gas left in the tank after a couple of monster performances last season.
There is no doubt that running back Todd Gurley will maintain his workhorse role going into the year. However, having a player of Peterson’s caliber on the roster would provide another interesting dynamic to the roster.
